Toshiba Satellite L75 Review

Toshiba Satellite L755 picture

Product Summary

The Toshiba Satellite has been a quality computer for many years now and this version is no different. It has the features, speed, ports, and power for any small business owner, home computer, or light gamer. Its large TruBrite HD display is nice for videos and its HDMI and VGA ports make it a great computer for streaming videos or watching DVDs on your HDTV. Toshiba is not as sexy as Apple, but it’s also not as expensive. For the practical computer shopper who likes an excellent quality to price ratio, the Toshiba Satellite L755 is worth a look.

The Features

As a general rule, Toshiba seems to focus on function over style. The same is true of the Satellite L755. Its overall design is nothing to write home about, but its 15.6” LED backlit TruBrite HD display (max resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels) makes browsing the web and viewing videos a pleasure. It comes with a 64-bit Intel Pentium B940/ 2 GHz dual-core processor, which isn’t quite up to par with the i3, i5, and i7 processors Intel has released in the last couple years, but will certainly perform well enough for web browsing, some less demanding gaming, watching videos, and day-to-day multi-tasking. The Satellite L755 comes with 4GB of RAM and has the potential to upgrade to 8GB. It also comes with a whopping 500GB of storage! No worries of filling up your hard drive with this laptop. The 5.7 hours of battery life leaves much to be desired, especially since most batteries don’t actually achieve the amount of time the producer advertises. Toshiba’s Satellite L755 supports wireless LAN, Fast Ethernet, and Ethernet network connections. It comes with a sound card, microphone, and a rockin’ Dolby Advanced Audio system that makes this computer great for listening to music. It’s also a great for videos. The above mentioned display features combined with the Satellite L755’s Intel HD Graphics Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0 makes watching videos crystal clear and free of jumps and stalls. Satellite L755 runs on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium operating system and should be commended for going over and beyond in terms of port and slot accessibility on this laptop. Satellite L755 contains ports for VGA, HDMI, memory stick PRO, memory stick, and Hi-Speed USB. It also contains slots for SDHC, SDXC, SD, miniSD, and microSD memory cards, as well as a slot for a multimedia card. It comes with an integrated RW DVD drive and integrated camera and all for the very low starting price of $509.

The Design

As previously mentioned, the Satellite L755 isn’t going to blow your socks off in terms of design. Its dimensions are 15” wide, 9.8” deep, and an unflattering 1.5” thick. Add on 5.7 lbs in weight and you can tell just from this review that this computer’s not winning any beauty pageants in the near future. You’re going to buy this baby for its brains, not its looks.

What Users Say

Users like this computer for its large screen, sharp picture, and that it has nearly every port and slot they could possibly need for their computing purposes. Users have good things to say about the Dolby Advanced Audio system, and though they aren’t crazy about the thickness of this laptop, most say that it is lighter than it appears. Nearly everyone says the price is right on for this quality computer.

Final Thoughts

The Toshiba Satellite L755 is no MacBook Pro, let’s be honest, most of us will never use half of what the MacBook Pro is capable of doing. For those users who need a laptop for browsing the web, conducting research for school or business, keeping track of finances, downloading and listening to music, viewing videos, or talking to loved ones over Skype, Toshiba has you covered. It even has what light gamers are looking for in terms of graphics and speed. If you are a serious gamer, this will probably not be your first choice. If you are looking to get noticed in the coffee shop or library for your cool new computer, this is probably not for you either. And if you are a director, photographer, graphic artist, or the like, this may not be your first choice; however, it does have a lot of storage and a nice display, so it shouldn’t be counted out either. If what you want is a solid, reliable laptop from a solid reliable company this is worth some serious consideration. If you plan to use this computer with a lot of peripherals or for streaming video to your HDTV, this could be for those users as well. Like all laptops, the Satellite L755 is not for everyone, but it could very well fit your needs at an incredible price.
