HP Pavilion dv7t Series Review

HP Pavilion dv7t picture

Product Summary

Here is another of HP’s not so portable but fully loaded laptops. Fast as a speeding bullet, its crystal clear HD picture jumps into your home in a single bound, it sweeps users off their feet, and comforts those with endless files, pictures, mp3s, and videos to store on its vast cavern of a hard drive. The HP Pavilion dvt7 Series is a superhero in every area—but perhaps more of an X-Man mutant than a dashing Superman in the looks department. Not to worry though; the features on this beast will distract you from the effort required to lift it and carry it around town. If you want a computer with some serious speed, a giant screen with a beautiful picture, and jam-packed with features, you’ve come to the right place. Just be prepared to shell out some cash.

The Features

Did I mention the huge screen with clarity like a glacial mountain stream? The Pavilion dv7t comes with a 17.3” LED HD display with BriteView technology and 1600 x 900 resolution. When it comes to power and speed think Jamaican track star. This puppy comes with a 2nd generation Intel Quad-Core i7 2.7 GHz processor with a Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz. If that means nothing to you, take my word for it, it’s absurdly fast. We’re talking look over your shoulder and sneer at the competition as you cross the finish line fast. Now follow me from the speedy surface features to the deep cave of hard drive space. Pavilion dv7t has 750GB of hard drive and 6GB of RAM with the potential of expanding to 16GB. Wow. That’s a whole lot of space. Use your computer away from an outlet more often than not? Not to worry, Pavilion dv7t’s 9.5 hours of battery life from its 9-cell lithium battery has you covered. Watching videos is no doubt on the list of things you plan to do with your new laptop. The Pavilion dv7t comes with 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA], and Beats(TM) audio + HP Triple Bass Reflex Subwoofer for indulging both your auditory and visual senses. Want a couple more cool features? How about an integrated TruVision HD Webcam and Fingerprint security system? The Pavilion dv7t runs on Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium operating system, which is an extremely intuitive and well organized interface for getting around your computer. It has SD and MultiMedia card slots, 2 USB 3.0 ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports. It is also has HDMI and VGA ports for transferring your HD clarity to your HDTV. Add on a Blu-ray Disc-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW drive to this long list of features and you’ll be able to swallow the slightly high price tag of $999-$1200 a little easier.

The Design

As previously mentioned, the design is by no means the sleek, thin style of, say, a MacBook Air. Users don’t often turn to HP for its focus on looking cool; rather, we turn to HP for functionality, speed, power, and utility. This laptop comes in dark umber or steel gray. It is 1.4” thick and weighs 6.72 lbs. So, it’s definitely more of an arm weight than a notepad, but it has the goods you desire. Try to focus on that.

What Users Say

Users like the speed, reliability, and long battery life of the Pavilion dv7t. They don’t like the high price tag. They like the easy start up and effectiveness for gaming as well as the Fingerprint security technology, but they aren’t as fond of the bulky style and that it weighs as much as a small child.

Final Thoughts

If you can afford it, buy it. You aren’t going to find better specs on a laptop than on the Pavilion dv7t. It’s in a league all its own. The screen is as big as any you’ll find on a laptop and its processor is debatably the best on the market. It has a beautiful picture and a rockin’ sound system. It has an absurdly large hard drive that would be challenging for any user to fill and enough RAM to do anything you plan to do. It has ports for VGA and HDMI, so if the 17.3” screen is not enough, you can transfer it over to your HDTV. The operating system is high quality and easy to use, it has enough ports to add all the peripherals you have in mind, and the TrueVision HD Webcam is a nice touch. The Fingerprint security ain’t too shabby either. All this said anyone can load down a computer with features if price is no object. $999-$1200 is not what every user is willing to spend on a new laptop, especially one that isn’t the most portable. However, if you don’t plan to stray far from your desk and you’re looking for an upgrade that will not be obsolete anytime soon, give this computer a try.
